History: Bistro 34 has been open since May 2016 and business is going from strength to strength. Gillian decided to strike out on my own and open Bistro 34 after working for more than 10 years in kitchens in Northumberland where she was pastry chef at The Northumberland Arms, Felton and Head Chef at Embleton Hall Country House Hotel in Longframlington.

Style of food: English, Scottish with a little hint of French and Italian

Menu sample: Starters include smoked salmon and king prawns on a bed of leaves with dill and lemon aïoli (£6.50); pan seared scallops with black pudding, apple purée and crispy bacon (£6.95); creamy mushrooms served on a garlic crouton (£5.95); breads and dips (vegan £3.95) or for two to share (£5.95).

Mains feature herb crusted rack of lamb with rich tomato sauce and new potatoes (£16.95); salmon steak with warm salad of braised lettuce and new potatoes with beurre blanc sauce (£16.50); fishcakes on a bed of wilted spinach with a creamy fish sauce served with chips (£11.95); pea risotto with lemon, mint and parmesan (vegan £10.95).

For the ‘Important Little People’ there is usually bangers and mash, chicken nuggets and chips, pasta with a bacon and cream sauce or tomato based sauce together with a complimentary fruit juice and ice cream.

Desserts, all priced £5.95 include raspberry mille feuille with raspberry coulis and Chantilly cream; chocolate brownie with fruit, Chantilly Cream and raspberry coulis; lemon posset with shortbread; rhubarb and strawberry crumble with custard; sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream.

We have brought back the “Beat the Clock” menu on weekday evenings, from 5pm - 6.30pm for £11.95 per person for two courses and offer outside catering. We constantly strive to become better in every aspect.”
