A NUMBER of fun workshops are set to be held across the county to encourage children to look after 'fantastic fish'.

The free events, which take place from May 24 to June 2, offer activities to teach youngsters between the ages of five and 11 to care for their pets.

Children will have the chance to take part in interactive games and complete fun activity sheets based on what they have learnt.

The activities, which take place at Pets of Home stores in Carlisle, Workington and Penrith each day at 11.30am, will also provide the opportunity for little ones to meet the fish residents.

At the end of the session, they will be given stickers and a certificate to show they are equipped to be excellent fish owners.

Catherine Gash, store manager at the Pets at Home Penrith store, said: “Our free My Pet Pals workshops are a great way for parents and children to understand everything they need to know about owning a pet.”

The workshops will cover the five key welfare needs for fish including shelter, food, water, good health, appropriate company and the right living environment.

Each workshop lasts about 30 minutes.
