A woman has admitted stealing baby milk from a Cockermouth shop and from a supermarket nearly 50 miles away on the same day.

Elena Loredana Catalan, 23, appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Workington to face two theft charges.

The court heard that, on October 30 2017, Catalan stole baby formula worth £144 from Boots in Cockermouth.

On the same date she stole a quantity of the product worth £325 from Sainsbury's in Haltwhistle, Northumberland.

Catalan, of Hurst Road, Coventry, admitted the charges.

She also admitted failing to surrender to custody at the court on November 17 last year.

Catalan was given a community order requiring her to undergo up to 15 days of rehabilitation activity.

She must also pay a £50 fine, £234.50 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.
