A PUB on the edge of Carlisle which has been undergoing renovation will open its doors on Sunday for drinks.

The Crown and Thistle, at Rockcliffe, will be run by Jo and Richard Fenn.

The couple were most recently managers of the Black Lion at Durdar, near Carlisle Racecourse, and were previously involved with The Black Swan at Culgaith and The Queens at Warwick-on-Eden.

During that time they built a renowned reputation and a firm clientele.

The couple said: “We’re opening the bar this Sunday from 12noon all day.

“Our menus will be there and we will be taking table bookings for food from May 26.”

Since getting the keys for the pub in January the pair have been busy carrying out a refurbishment.

New turf for the beer garden, which sits close to the river Eden, has been laid and outdoor furniture installed.

Prior to the Fenns taking over, the Crown & Thistle, which sits at the bottom of a dip at the entrance to the village, had been shut for slightly more than year.

The Crown & Thistle is the only remaining pub in Rockcliffe, north west of Carlisle.

At one time, there were five pubs in the village.
