Maryport's young mountaineer, Kacy Mason, is tackling the biggest mountain in England in preparation for the Wainwright Challenge, and adding Scafell in the mix for some extra hard work.

10-year-old Kacy will be scaling England's highest peak tomorrow reaching Scafell Pike's 3,209ft summit after a hefty hike to the top.

After a hearty lunch, the unstoppable youngster will be marching straight up the ever so slightly smaller Scafell, ensuring a day of achievements and a good night's sleep.

The nature lover is always pushing herself, and is currently training to complete the Wainwright Challenge in just one year, starting on August 1, in the hopes of raising as much money as she can for Wasdale Mountain Rescue, to thank them for their wonderful work in the area.

When Kacy isn't spending her Saturdays endlessly climbing England's highest mountains, she is building up her fitness in the gym, up on the climbing wall, or canoeing with her family, and the active adventurer can't wait for the challenges ahead of her.

Michael, Kacy's dad, described just how much his daughter is looking forward to the challenge as well as her training, and said: "She's so excited to get up Scafell Pike this weekend, and Scafell as well. She knows it'll be tough, but with the support from the community that she's been receiving, she knows she can do it."

He continued, saying: "We're meeting the Wasdale Mountain Rescue team at 7.30am for some pictures before we set off up Scafell Pike, and we're expecting it to take about six or seven hours. It'll be hard work, but she always enjoys it - she can't wait!"
