Workington’s RNLI Fundraising Team thanked the community for helping to save lives with their generosity at Plaza Cinema last month.

The friendly fundraisers were stationed at the Workington cinema from March 15 to March 28, raising money for the lifeboat station and crew outside all showings of the newly released film, Fisherman’s Friends.

Staff of Plaza Cinema, including manager Pete Berrisford, were delighted for the RNLI team to collect at the showings, and have been praised by the fundraisers for their kindness and generosity. Thanks to their support in allowing the group to raise money at every screening of the film, an amazing £2,040 was donated to the Workington Lifeboat Station.

And cinema staff aren’t the only ones to thank, as a spokesperson from the Workington RNLI Fundraisers expressed their gratitude to the community, saying: “The people of West Cumbria are remarkably generous in their support of their local lifeboat. We’d like to thank them all for their continuous support and generosity.”

The wonderful RNLI fundraising team aren’t slowing down in their money-raising any time soon, with the group inviting everyone to their Mayday Yellow Welly All Day Breakfast and Other Delights on Wednesday, May 15 at Norham Coffee House in Cockermouth, from 9am to 3pm.

Fundraising is vital for the lifeboat station and crew, as every pound and penny raised goes towards the upkeep of the station’s two lifeboats and two flood vans, which saved many lives in the Cockermouth floods and other areas, as well as the crew’s specialist equipment and kit.

Putting on events that are different to ordinary fundraisers is important to the team (and their favourite team member, Malcolm the Mannequin), and they hope to draw plenty of people in with the offer of an ‘all day breakfast and more’, with the ‘more’ even including a raffle, and raise another brilliant amount of money for the Workington Lifeboat Station.

With the help of Malcolm the Mannequin wearing a crew member’s full kit, and the cost of each piece of clothing and equipment decorating the outfit, the team have high hopes for their fabulous coffee morning, and are looking forward to seeing the generosity of West Cumbria supporting the lifeboats and crew in action once again.
