A Whitehaven man achieved his personal best when he ran the London Marathon for a third time at the weekend.

Luke Blaney tackled the 26.2-mile course in the capital on Sunday to raise money for Mind.

He has completed the marathon for the last two years with his sister, Rachael, in aid of Cancer Research UK in 2017 and for Hospice at Home West Cumbria last year.

The charities are close to the siblings' hearts after losing their Dad, Ged, to bowel cancer in March 2015.

This year, the 20-year-old ran the course solo, although his sister and the rest of his family were there to cheer him on from the sidelines.

"I saw them close to the finish line and that pushed me on," he said.

The Middlesex University student said he was "really pleased" to finish the course in four hours, 40 minutes.

"I'm always chuffed to finish it but to get a personal best is always special.

"I'm in agony - I'm still walking a bit funny!"

So far Luke has raised £1,300 for the mental health charity.

"It's going to go a long way to help people with mental health problems," he said.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me and thank you to my family for coming down to support me."
