A MUM will pound the streets of the capital in the London Marathon to raise cash for a breast cancer charity. after she was diagnosed with the disease a few months before her 30th birthday.

Nicola Berry, 32, is running for the charity Breast Cancer Now.

She said: “In September 2016 I found a lump under my arm. I was told it was probably an inflamed lymph node but after a biopsy mammogram and scan, the results came back it was stage three cancer.

“I had six rounds of chemotherapy first to shrink the tumour as it was 8cm, this was tough as I lost all my hair and had two beautiful little boys to look after.

“In April 2017 I had a full mastectomy and lymph node clearance then 15 sessions of radiotherapy.

“I have now moved on and am doing really well. I attend a support group and thought Breast Cancer Now was a good charity to run for.

“I got married to my amazing husband in July 2018 and ran the Great North Run in Newcastle for Breast Cancer Now last September.”

Tomorrow, Nicola, who lives at Kingstown, and her running partner Tracey Caddle will hit the streets of London.

Nicola, speaking to the News & Star from London yesterday, said: “It’s not too hot down here so I’m hoping it will be ok.

“I am looking forward to the atmosphere and the camaraderie.”

The furthest Nicola has run is 21 miles. Tomorrow, she will run 26.2 miles.

She said: “I have a fabulous friend and running partner, Tracey, who is running it with me and we have put hours of hard work into our training.

“We started training in October. I just want to complete it.”

Nicola, who works at HSBC, will be watched by her family including her husband and two young sons, Rhys, seven and Riley, four.

She is hoping to raise in excess of £2,000.
