THE Easter Bunny had children hopping around with glee as they followed his clues to stock up on chocolate along a terrific trail.

And there was no better place for them to search as the sun shone than down on Susan’s Farm.

The community and conservation venture, at Houghton, near Carlisle, opened its gates for its annual Easter egg hunt yesterday.

The event was certainly a smash hit as children moved quickly to get their hands on the seasonal treats before they melted.

Susan Aglionby and her team were praised for the fun they put on for families to enjoy a little seasonal magic.

With daffodils blooming and the chance to feed lambs, there could hardly have been a more spring-like experience.

Susan’s Farm is an award-winning venture - a working farm which provides learning and practical work experience as well as alternative education.

The team there is gaining a growing reputation for its community and conservation efforts, opening opportunities for many who become involved in its work.

All of those who too part received a free Fairtrade mini-egg.

The Houghton hunt was one of a host of events held yesterday.

Among those enjoying the day in Carlisle city centre was Kyle Terry, 11, of Stanwix. He said: “There are loads of Easter egg hunts going on and its really hot, but it is nice being outside.”

Many went into town to enjoy the Fisher Street Festival and the International Market, both of which conclude today.

Stuart Terry, 39, of Stanwix, said: The weather is good and the beer is great. It’s nice just to be able to walk round when the sun is shining. It makes a change for it to be a sunny bank holiday.”

Faye Hughes, 30, also from Carlisle, added: “ It has been lovely. We took the little one to the Easter Market and managed to grab some churros and a strawberry beer while baking in the sun. It has been beautiful.”

Churches held egg-rolling events yesterday as Easter services took place.
