Youngsters at a city nursery made a range of colourful creations as part of an Easter Bonnet Bonanza.

Kinder Park Nursery, on Warwick Road in Carlisle, held their annual Easter Eggstravaganza earlier this week.

This year, staff at the 50-place nursery decided to ask the children to create their most eye-catching and colourful Easter bonnets.

The spring event has been held at the nursery for many years - with the competition changing each year.

Joanne Routledge, the owner and manager of Kinder Park, told The Cumberland News that the latest event was a huge success.

“We had lots of children make their Easter bonnets at home with their families.

“The children were really proud to bring their bonnets into nursery.

“We had some very creative entries from Easter chicks to Spiderman bonnets.”

The community visitors judged the bonnets based upon the child’s input and creativity.

“It was a lovely way to celebrate Easter with our community visitors, encouraging the children to make positive relationships with people in the community,” Joanne added.

During the event on Tuesday morning, two bonnets were chosen from each nursery room by the visitors.

In the blue room, the winners were Benjamin and Cece, the red room winners were Kinsley and Casper, and in the yellow room, Charlie M and Harrison M took a prize.

Meanwhile, the baby room winners were Elenor and Anna, and the toddler room winners were James and Hannah.

The children whose bonnets were picked received an Easter egg or an Easter soft toy.

All of the children who were involved in the special competition also received a certificate for their participation.

At last year’s Easter event, the nursery held a most eggstravagant decorated Easter egg competition, with a painted egg challenge the year before.

The nursery, which opened its doors in 1991, cares for children from six months old to school age.

It has also picked up a number of awards over the years, including Ofsted Outstanding for 2008/2009, 2013/2014 and again for 2015/16.
