THE ARMY, coastguard and police were called to a beach after a shell was found lying in the sand.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team attended Drigg beach on Tuesday after Cumbria Police called them about a suspected military device.
Upon arrival the coastguard team identified the shell and marked its location, before returning the following day to await the the army’s explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) squad.
The EOD team were called out to another EOD and were unable to attend until yesterday.
When they arrived at the scene the EOD recovered the shell, examined it, deemed it to be solid inside and removed it from the beach.
If you find anything suspicious on the beach don’t touch it, certainly don’t remove it, mark its location and contact the coastguard on 999.
