NORTH West Euro-MP Paul Nuttall - a former leader of UKIP - has confirmed he will not stand in the next month's EU election.

In a statement today, Mr Nuttall, the North West Euro-MP for the Brexit Party, said: “I never thought this European election would happen; nor should it.

"We should have left the European Union on March 29, as promised.

“I do not intend to stand in this election.

"I do however, encourage people in the North West to vote for the Brexit Party.

"The battle to free ourselves from the shackles of the EU must continue.

"For my part it has been an honour and a pleasure to represent the people of the North West in the European Parliament for the past decade.”

Mr Nuttall stepped down from UKIP last December, saying he was unhappy with the direction the party was moving in.
