A SCOTBY woman was among the defendants in court after she was caught driving at a speed of 67mph on a 40mph road.

Dr Laura Duffy was left with a court bill of £811 and was given six points after she was caught speeding on the A689 Carlisle western bypass on November 23. The limit is 40mph.

Duffy, 38, of Alders Edge, pleaded guilty to the charge by single justice procedure. She was fined £660, ordered to pay £66 to fund victim services, told to pay costs of £85 and had six points added to her licence.

The offenders were all dealt with at Carlisle’s magistrates’ court on Wednesday (April 10).

Also among them was Louise Ashton, 41, who was fined £660 after she was caught without a valid driving licence, as well was as not being insured to drive. Ashton - who lives in Thomson Street in Carlisle - was stopped on February 13 on the same road. Both charges were proved by single justice procedure.

A Workington man racked up a court bill of £384 and had his licence endorsed by six points after he was caught driving at 96 mph on the A66 in Stainton, Penrith. The limit on that stretch of road is 70mph.

Wayne Briggs, 39, pleaded guilty to the charge, which related to driving on December 21.

Briggs - who lives in Common End - was fined £269, told to pay £30 to fund victim services, to pay costs of £85 and had six points added to his licence.

A Penrith man was among the defendants after he appeared in court charged with failing to identify the driver of a vehicle and driving at 64mph on a 40mph stretch of the A6 at Plumpton.

The charge related to an incident on September 26.

Liam Bull, 35, of Abbotsford House in Wordsworth Street, was found guilty under single justice procedure of failing to identify the driver of a vehicle but the charge of speeding was withdrawn.

Bull was fined £660, told to pay a surcharge of £66 to fund victim services, ordered to pay costs of £85 and had six points added to his driving licence.

A man was left with a court bill of £608 and had points added to his licence after he was caught driving at 97mph.

This happened on the M6 at Shap on November 22, according to court papers. The limit was 70mph.

Andrew Clitheroe, 53, of South Avenue in New Longton, Preston was fined £660, told to pay £66 to fund victim services, was ordered to pay £85 costs and had six points added to his licence.
