A man who admits the robbery of a van which he then also drove dangerously was warned he could be sent to prison for the two crimes.

Matthew Adam Taylor, 27, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday where he entered guilty pleas to two charges. He admitted robbing a man of a Mercedes Sprinter van on April 28 last year, arising out of an incident which is said to have occurred in Maryport.

Taylor also admitted driving that van dangerously on Alne Road in the town on the same date.

Judge Barbara Forrester adjourned the case, and asked for a probation service pre-sentence report to be prepared on the defendant.

Taylor, of Crosby Street, Maryport, was granted bail, and is due to be sentenced for his offending at the crown court on May 13. But he was told by Judge Forrester: “The fact that I am going to grant you bail until then should not be taken as an indication that you might be at liberty after that date.”
