A MAN has admitted illegally possessing “laughing gas” capsules at the Kendal Calling music festival with intent to supply them.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how Rahib Zaman Miah’s offence occurred last year at an event which is held annually at Lowther Deer Park, near Penrith, and attracts thousands of visitors.

Miah, 27, faced one charge when he appeared before Judge Peter Davies over a video link this morning from a court in his home city of London.

He pleaded guilty to the possession of a psychoactive substance - 95 nitrous oxide canisters - with intent to supply. It is said these were found in a rucksack when Miah was stopped on the festival site on July 28 last year.

Miah’s barrister, Brendan Burke, told the court the defendant was a man without any criminal convictions to his name, and had only a warning and a reprimand recorded against him which dated back more than a decade.

Miah was granted bail by Judge Peter Davies, who adjourned the case asked for the probation service to prepare a report upon him. He is due to be sentenced for his crime at the crown court on April 25.

Judge Davies told Miah, of Grafton Road, Camden: “The fact that I am bailing you today is no indication of what the sentence will be.”
