A WEST Cumbrian artist will appear in a new BBC show.

Celia Burbush will appear in the new BBC One programme Home is Where the Art is hosted by Nick Knowles.

The Cockermouth-based artist won Cumbrian Artist of the Year award in 2017.

The show focuses on an artist’s ability to come up with an idea for an artwork, based on a mystery tour of a person’s house. The buyer remains a mystery until the artists (three per episode) get to do their ‘pitch’.

Celia, who has a studio in Keswick, said: "I have had so much fun working on the programme. The process of exploring a mystery buyer’s home and imagining their hopes and dreams, is something I have relished."

In recent years, Celia has started to make paintings of people’s descriptions of their dream home or place.

The idea for this had sprung from a difficult moment in Celia’s life, during Christmas 2015, as she and her children waited for their real home to be re-instated after floodwater had swept through it as a result of Storm Desmond.

Celia had only moved into her house six days before.

In the show Nick Knowles challenges artists to create artworks for people they've never met. Celia will feature in the programme on April 16.

"To put myself in someone else’s shoes is my passion, and this is what being commissioned to make a special artwork is all about," added Celia.

Episodes of Home is Where the Art is, which started on Monday, will be broadcast everyday at 3.45pm on BBC1 until April 26.
