A Foxhound-loving hero blew supporters away with his speedy walk around Ennerdale Water, and raised an amazing of money for his adored dogs in his efforts.

Eight-year-old Jake John (JJ) Eeles completed the daunting seven mile route around the lake, taking just two hours and 30 minutes to whizz through the trek - even after taking the high route around the water to avoid the more dangerous parts of the lower track.

Despite the bitter cold and the brutal wind, JJ powered through the task he had set himself with his flatcap on, and his favourite hound Marksman happily by his side the entire time.

On his travels, the driven youngster met a Scottish man who also wasn’t afraid of the weather, and added to JJ’s impressive total amount of money raised by handing him £10 there and then – bringing his total to £1,405, all to be donated to the Eskdale and Ennerdale Foxhounds Kennels.

Christine, JJ’s extremely proud mum, couldn’t help but laugh when talking about her ambitious boy, saying: “He wasn’t even tired after his walk – he still had enough puff in him to blow the horn to announce that he’d finished!”

She continued: “He was proud of himself, but he never smiles or jumps around out of excitement.

"Even when he wins at competitions, he’s always Mr Serious! But he was definitely proud of himself, and happy that he’d raised so much for his hounds.”

The ‘little whippet’ made every member of his family almost burst with pride, particularly his grandad, who is JJ’s inspiration when it comes to the love and care of foxhounds.

Christine explained: “His grandad couldn’t believe how far he got so quickly. Jake’s dad was walking behind him to make sure he was safe, and he struggled to keep up with him!”

JJ, from Egremont, and his family want to thank supporters for donations, and for caring so much about what the St. Bridget’s Primary School student adores so much. The devoted foxhound enthusiast has got his thinking (flat!) cap firmly back on, and already working on another fundraiser for his kennels and hounds. “We want to thank everyone so much for giving to the JustGiving page, and for the huge amount of support – it means so much to Jake, and to his hounds”, Christine said. “He can’t wait to come up with another idea to raise money for the kennels, and to help his hounds even more,” said Christine.
