Tributes have been paid to a respected Eden Valley farmer Russell Bowman, who sadly passed away peacefully at his home last Saturday at the age of 47.

The former National Farmers Union Cumbrian County Chairman was described as a 'good friend to many'.

At the age of 36, Russell became the NFU Cumbrian County Chairman in 2008, and spent the majority of his two years in office successfully encouraging younger people to become involved with the union.

The county chairmanship role was a huge honour for Russell who, at the time, credited his father Tom with giving him the confidence to fulfill his ambitions.

After finishing his term serving his county, Russell then took on a role representing his fellow dairy farmers as NFU North West Dairy Board Chairman.

Current NFU County Chairman, David Raine said: "Russell gave his all to the NFU and was a thoroughly likeable and decent person who will be missed by many."

Russell leaves his wife, Christine, sons, Harry, James and Bruce.
