WORKINGTON MP will join a fell walking challenge to raise cash for Multiple Sclerosis research.

Sue Hayman will take part in the 10-in-10 challenge with husband Ross.

They will join hundreds of walkers tackling 10 Lake District peaks in 10 hours on June 22, over a 16-mile circuit from Newlands to Buttermere and back.

The annual event has raised £420,000 for MS research since 2011, when organiser Yvonne Booth created the event after her husband Duncan, an elite rock climber, was diagnosed with the illness.

Mrs Hayman said: "Yvonne and Duncan are truly inspiring. MS is a daily challenge for them, but they have responded by laying down a challenge for the rest of us and raising a huge amount of money in the process.

"Ross and I walk the fells a lot, so we decided to join in. Now we have to get in training."

There is a 5-in-5 challenge on the day as well as a 10-in-10, and new this year is an additional Family 5-in-5 over less demanding terrain in September. Full details are at www.10in10.org.uk

Yvonne said: "It’s great to have Sue and Ross taking part. The challenge gets more popular every year, but there are still places available at all three events so now’s the time to sign up."
