Police in Carlisle who had been dealing with "an incident" on Eden Bridge say they have stood down.
The force was called to the location about 6pm tonight.
In a public message, officers urged people to avoid the area if possible.
A force spokeswoman told the News & Star the incident was now being stood down.
She could not say what the nature of the incident was but said: "No one has been hurt."
The incident temporarily prohibited access to the Sands Centre.
The road over the bridge was shut while the incident was ongoing. This is now reopening.
