Details of a major motorsports event have been released ahead of its arrival in one north Cumbrian town.

Brampton parish council have announced details of the 2019 Pirelli International Rally, which will once again have its finish line in the town.

Taking place on Saturday, April 27, the rally will be preceded by a raffle which will give two lucky winners the chance to take their own rally car ride.

The two winners will grab themselves a seat on the ‘shakedown’ run through the Kielder Forest section of the Pirelli Rally, on the day before the race itself - Friday, April 26.

Six other raffle winners will receive VIP race day tickets, giving them the opportunity to get a full taste of Pirelli’s hospitality.

Brampton parish council has confirmed that the raffle winners will be chosen at the beginning of April. Entrants hoping to win a place on the shakedown run will need to be 16 or older.

Chairman of Brampton’s parish council, David Moorat, was glad to see the rally returning to the town.

“Brampton is proud to be a part of this renowned International Rally and look forward to welcoming the race participants and their support teams back into the town,” he said.

Mr Moorat added that the rally’s return would bring a great deal of attention and visitors to the town.

“The event has drawn hundreds of car enthusiasts in previous years,” he said, “and we hope to increase visitors’ numbers this year with additional attractions for the wider family.”

Exact details of the family entertainment offering on the day have not yet been finalised, but the parish council says it plans to provide a selection of children’s entertainers, music, food stalls and other attractions.

The council is also planning for a 4pm start to the event, but will confirm an exact time in the final programme of events, set to be released at the end of this month.

The Pirelli International Rally is the third round of the British Rally Championship, as well as being part of a number of other rally championships including the FUCHS Lubricant Motorsport UK British Historic Rally Championship.

Pirelli have already confirmed that viewing next month’s event will not require tickets to view any of the stages.

Instead, organisers have promised they will publish maps of each rally stage, as well as spectator car parks along the route, in the weeks leading up to the event.

The information will be published on the pirelliinternationalrally.co.uk website.

In order to set up the rally’s course into Brampton on April 27, a number of the town’s roads will be closed from 3.30pm on the day of the race. Motorists are advised to check in advance.
