Concerned residents are calling for tighter speed restrictions in Brampton.

They have reached out to the town’s parish council with concerns over motorists using Paving Brow, Capon Hill and Gelt Road.

Parish councillor John Harding echoed these concerns at last week’s meeting.

“When I go up there I often drive at 20mph, and there are cars desperate to get past me,” he said.

“It’s getting quite bad, especially because there are no pathways at the top.

“I think long-term we should support this call for a 20mph speed limit.”

A Cumbria County Council spokesman encouraged any concerned Brampton residents to contact the county council’s highways department to raise any concerns they may have.

“Residents can check the council website has details for how to email or write, or they can telephone the highways hotline on 0300 303 2992,” the spokesman said.

“All concerns raised by the public are discussed with the police.

“They may arrange a speed survey to determine what action can be taken.”
