Plans have been submitted for a new glamping site in the Brampton area.

The applicants are requesting permission from Carlisle City Council to construct a small luxury camping site near Walton, north of Brampton.

In the plans, the applicant describes its proposed site as a “small, luxury, environmentally friendly glamping site situated within our small holding in close proximity to our animal stock and within a wild meadow planted by ourselves”.

The plans also explain that the site will “look out down the valley with views to the Caldbeck fells”.

The applicant is hoping to provide “overnight [or] short stay accommodation to walkers of Hadrian’s Wall and visitors to the plethora of local attractions”.

In addition, the applicant explains it plans to keep the glamping site small.

“A contributing factor was becoming aware of the need for such a site and becoming increasingly aware of how many walkers cross our road when walking the wall”, the applicant adds in its planning statement.

After researching local tourist needs, the applicant says in the planning statement there is a need for local accommodation to appeal primarily to walkers and tourists to Hadrian’s Wall and the surrounding area.

One travel provider for the Hadrian’s Wall area is quoted in the planning statement as saying “people choose sections of the wall to walk, the accommodation on offer effects what sections they choose”.

The applicant hopes to construct three luxury yurts designed for short stay camping, with scope to grow “if the business justifies it”.
