The head of a Brownies group is looking for a volunteer to step in and save it from closure.

Jill Jennings recently announced she was stepping down from running the 1st Brampton Brownies, appealing for someone to take her place.

First taking the reigns as her daughter Lucy joined the group, she feels now is the time to call it a day after 18 years at the helm.

But she says the group won’t be able to continue if a replacement doesn’t step forward by the time she bows out in the summer.

“I would hate for the group to close, I really would like it to carry on,” Jill said.

“My daughter helps me now, but she’s got two little ones herself now, so I’ve got grandchildren.

“I just feel that I’ve got other things going on in my life, and it’s time for me to hang up my boots as it were.”

Jill has enjoyed her time with the Brownies, which currently stands at 18 members, all aged between seven and 10.

“I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s so rewarding, just to see the children’s faces when you tell them something you’re going to do.

“It’s a great thing to do, it’s all about the children, encouraging them to understand how to be nice to each other in a group situation.

“I really have loved it, and I will miss it.”

Jill will also be missed by her Brownies, who reacted with dismay when she announced her intention to step down.

“They were all really upset, they were shocked.”

Should a replacement not step forward, Jill’s group would be the last of its kind to disappear from the town.

“We had two Brownie groups in Brampton, and the other one closed about a year ago,” Jill said.

“The Rainbow group closed recently. If our group closed too, there wouldn’t be any left.

“Not everybody’s got a car, so having a group in Brampton is a big benefit.”
