The emergency services had to rescue a man who had jumped into the river Eden in Carlisle late last night.
Police officers and firefighters were called out about 10.20pm.
The man had reportedly jumped from Eden Bridge, near the Sands Centre, into the river.
A fire service spokesman said: "We were on standby with our swift water rescue equipment and personnel. He was removed from the river by the police."
Two fire crews from Carlisle and one from Longtown attended the incident.
It is not believed the man was injured.
Cumbria Police has been approached for comment.
