BRITISH Transport Police have confirmed that a pedestrian who died after being hit by a train on the line between Carlisle and Newcastle was a 19-year-old man.

Emergency services were called to the railway lines at Tyne Green, Hexham, at 10.40am yesterday after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

British Transport Police said today that the pedestrian who was killed was a 19-year-old man.

They said the death was not being treated as suspicious and the man's family had been informed.

A report has been passed to the coroner.

Trains between Carlisle and Newcastle were affected after the line was closed, but it reopened at around 1.15pm.
