A NEW free service has been launched to help keep some of Cumbria’s most remote households warm.

Cumbria Action for Sustainability is drawing on funding from Cumbria Community Foundation and the Alston Moor Community Fund to offer a free draught-proofing service to 15 households residents in the Alston Moor area as part of the Alston Moor ‘Greenprint’ project.

Roe Baker leads the Alston Moor Greenprint project for Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS).

He explained how Alston Moor residents can engage with the scheme.

“The first step is for householders to contact us at CAfS and we’ll work out which of our services they might be eligible for,” she said.

“The eligibility criteria are quite broad, so it’s worth ringing up and having a chat with CAfS,” Roe continued.

“People with a long-term illness or disability, on a low income, receiving tax credits or some other benefits are likely to be eligible, among others.”

“We’re really grateful to Cumbria Community Foundation and Alston Moor Community Fund for making it possible for us to offer this extra level of service to Alston Moor residents,” Roe said.

“The extra draught-proofing service will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so I’d encourage people to get in touch quickly.”
