It WILL be a livelier than usual Saturday night in one north Cumbrian hilltop town this weekend.

Three bands will be performing this evening in Castle Carrock, all in aid of fundraising for its village hall.

Tonight is the latest in a string of events to drum up funds for The Watson Institute, which is estimated to need up to £100,000 in renovation.

The fund has so far has raised more than £3,000 since the first event three months ago.

On the bill for tonight, which kicks off at 7.45pm, are Loose Cargo, Mid Life Crisis and Slyder.

Paul Thomson, the drummer for Slyder and a Castle Carrock resident, organised the event.

A member of the Watson Institute’s management committee, Paul was pleased to have seen the strong response from locals to past fundraising events.

“It’s a good community,” he said.

“When there’s things like this, we tend to pull together. It’s good to see that happen.

“I think because it is quite a small community it tends to happen in that way.”

Tickets for the evening are £10 on the door, which will included a children’s disco beforehand, starting at 6.30pm.
