A “MUCH-NEEDED” social housing complex for Egremont has been approved this week.
The 26-homes will be managed by Home Group, one of the biggest housing associations in the UK.
The houses will be built on land to the south of Royal Drive, replacing former social housing which had reached the end of its life.
The replacement dwellings will be of “modular construction” – with sections constructed off-site and delivered to the building site for assembly.
Christine said the planning application followed “extensive” talks with Home Group to ensure it was consistent with surrounding buildings
Cumbria Highways had previously raised some issues, but a meeting of the Copeland planning panel heard that these have now all been resolved – and there have received no other objections to the plans.
Speaking at yesterday’s (February 20), councillor Joan Hully welcomed the proposals, adding social housing was “much-needed” in the area.
Most of the homes will front onto Royal Drive, while the garages and parking courts to the back of the site will be replaced with six of the new builds.
The access road will be created 10ft to the south of the existing access.
Each house will have front and back garden, with two designated off-street parking spaces.
