A WOMAN was arrested on suspicion of arson following a property fire in Carlisle. 

Crews from the city’s East and West Fire Stations, along with a crew from Longtown Fire Station, were called to reports of a fire in a flat in Willowholme Road, Caldewgate. 

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said one person was rescued from the property and handed into the care of paramedics.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “A woman, 26, was arrested on suspicion of arson.
“She was taken to the city’s Cumberland Infirmary by
ambulance. 

“She did not suffer life-threatening injuries.”

Firefighters were at the scene for more than an hour-and-a-half, used one hose reel, two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. 

The incident happened at about 8.50pm on Wednesday and the fire was confirmed to be out at 9.05pm.

No one else was reported to be injured as a result of the fire. 

The extent of the damage is unknown.
