COUNCILLORS unanimously approved a revised budget for the next 12 months that will see council tax rises of between six and 19 pence a week for residents.
Carlisle City Council passed the £14m budget last night at the city’s Civic Centre, with all councillors in attendance voting in favour of the budget.
The meeting was rescheduled for last night after an amendment - put forward by the Independent councillor for Botcherby Robert Betton - was approved by councillors on February 5.
His motion was to spend £60,000 from council reserves next year to help make Carlisle a cleaner place.
The money will pay for two new officers to tackle dog fouling, litter and fly tipping in the city. The scheme will be a one-year pilot scheme.
It was the only amendment made to the city council’s Executive budget proposals. The budget will see the following weekly council tax rises:
- Band A - Six pence
- Band B - Seven pence
- Band C - Nine pence
- Band D - 10 pence
- Band E - 12 pence
- Band F - 14 pence
- Band G - 16 pence
- Band H - 19 pence
Leader of Carlisle City Council, Colin Glover, said at the meeting: “This is a council with a bold ambition and a clear vision.
“This budget provides the framework to deliver on our priorities to deliver economic growth and improve the health and well-being of our citizens and communities.”
