The gym at Keswick Leisure Pool has benefited from a £180,000 upgrade.

The investment by GLL, which runs the Allerdale council owned centre under its Better brand, has provided new TechnoGym cardiovascular and strength machines.

They include treadmills, cross trainers, rowing machines and spinning bikes.

A new strength equipment and free weights area features an Olympic bar with weight plates up to 120kg.

The existing gym space has also been redecorated, with new flooring, lighting and ceiling grid, as well as roof repairs.

New TV screens and an improved music system have also been installed.

Councillor Tony Lywood, an Allerdale councillor for Keswick, officially opened the new gym.

At the relaunch, Lakeland Rowing Club were presented with a rowing machine.

Coun Lywood said: “The refurbishment looks great. The state of the art equipment will hopefully enhance the health and wellbeing of the people of Keswick.

"Keeping fit and healthy, although not always easy, should be encouraged. Allerdale Borough Council, the Keswick Rowing Club and GLL have done a first class job here and I wish the newly refurbished gym every success.”

Martin Horne, partnership manager for Better, said: “We’re delighted with the refurbishment at Keswick Leisure Pool and the feedback that we’ve received from customers has been excellent.

"Our aim is to get more people, more active, more often and this project will certainly help us achieve that. Its good to see so many new faces using the new gym as well as our regular members.”

Coun Michael Heaslip, the council's executive member responsible for leisure centres, said: “I’m really pleased to see that this new state-of-the-art gym equipment in Keswick is already proving really popular.

"This is part of our efforts, working with Better, to ensure everyone in Allerdale has access to great sporting facilities.”
