Zac Walsh, 19, is a third-generation farmer, who runs Bunkers Hill Dairy with his father and grandfather, trading as Messrs Walsh. In early 2018, Zac and his family decided the farm’s loader needed upgrading to a top-of-the-range model, and they knew just where to go for it.

Zac said: “We realised we needed a loader with a bit more power, and with a side-arm. We spoke with the staff at Carrs Billington Agriculture Ltd, and they recommended the Weidemann Telehandler T6027. We’ve had German-made machines before and the build quality has always been very impressive, but the Weidemann still exceeded our expectations.

“It’s very compact for the power, and the hydraulics are the fastest of any telehandler we’ve used. It manages our trailer without difficulty, even when fully loaded. The vertical lift system makes handling simple, even at great heights, and the whole machine is very easy to manoeuvre, especially with the four-wheel steering. I think my favourite thing is the visibility though; when you’re driving you can see behind you, and see the right wheel no problem, which I haven’t found with other brands.”

Carrs Billington became an official Weidemann distributor less than 18 months ago, but already account for more than 33 per cent of the German firm’s UK sales.

Dale Shaw, sales manager for Carrs Billington, said: “The Walsh family have always been excellent customers, and we knew the T6027 model would be ideal for their operations and an effective addition to their farm.

“Since we began distributing Weidemann products over a year ago, we’ve seen more and more customers switch from other brands, and it’s not difficult to see why - Weidemann’s products are industry-leading.

“We stock the full range of Weidemann equipment, which includes telehandlers, telescopic wheeled loaders, and Hoftrac’s, it’s been a fantastic fit for Carrs Billington, and a number of our customers agree.”

Zac explained why his family are such loyal customers: “We’ve worked with Carrs Billington for more than 30 years for good reason. They provide us with everything we need, from calf powder to tractors, and the service is always wonderful. It’s one-day delivery too, which is a real blessing for a busy dairy farm. Even our wellies come from Carrs!”

Things are only getting busier at Bunker Hill, with a raw milk vending machine installed in June 2016, selling up to 100 litres of fresh, unpasteurised milk per day. “We’ve now sold milk to visitors from hundreds of countries, and from every continent,” Zac said. “Visitors to the Lake District love it, and we’ve built up some very enthusiastic local regulars as well.”

Carrs Billington Agriculture supplies the farming and rural communities with a comprehensive range of agricultural products and services, with 33 country stores across England, Scotland, and Wales. A range of Weidemann products are available to test drive at any of their machinery depots in, Annan, Barnard Castle, Carlisle, Hexham, Morpeth and Penrith.
