A man has appeared in court accused of assaulting two paramedics as they went about their work.

Jack Declan Nicholson, 26, appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates Court and admitted assaulting the two men as they exercised their functions as emergency workers in Workington on December 20 last year.

The court heard that Nicholson also stole a purse and £170 in Workington on February 8, and taking a £3 bottle of wine from the town's Marks & Spencer store on February 10.

Nicholson, whose address was given as c/o Probation Service, Guard Street, Workington, was given a community order requiring him to undergo rehabilitation.

He was also ordered to pay £253 compensation, £85 costs, an £85 surcharge and a £50 fine.
