Firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at Carlisle's Carleton Clinic and one person was rushed to hospital.
Crews were called at just after 1pm on Monday to a contained fire in the clinic on, Cumwhinton Drive.
A spokeswoman for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said:"We can confirm that a fire broke out in one of the inpatient wards at Carleton Clinic.
The fire was contained to one room and one patient was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation."
The Trust added:"A full review of the circumstances will now take place.”
Appliances from Carlisle East, West and Brampton fire stations were sent to the scene.
Crews were at the clinic for about 40 minutes, and used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire with no substantial damage.
