Carlisle's Eden Bridge is reopen following an incident last night.
It was feared a man was going to jump from the bridge into the swollen river below.
Police closed off the road while they supported the individual.
Firefighters with swift water rescue equipment were also dispatched as a precaution.
The Carlisle East crew were on standby in Bitts Park, but were not needed.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 9pm.
Eden Bridge was closed in both directions while specially-trained staff helped the individual concerned.
The road reopened about an hour and a half later.
