AN ESTABLISHED chip shop has started a new adventure - offering deliveries straight to people’s doors.

Gina’s Plaice in Wigton has listened to what their customers want and launched a delivery service.

Locals can now get their fried favourites without having to leave their home and the service is becoming more popular as the weeks go by.

Owner Gina Thomason said: “It’s going slow, but going well so far. It’s been getting busier each week.

“As people are getting to know that we deliver it’s becoming more popular.”

Gina has worked in chip shops all her life. She worked in George’s Plaice for 30 years and has owned Gina’s Plaice in King Street for seven years, building loyal custom and a five-star hygiene rating.

The idea to open her own shop was an easy one for her, as she boasts more than 40 years’ experience the decision was simple.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to do it for myself but waited until the children got older.”

“My husband was worried, he is a worrier, but I wasn’t worried at all.”

The decision to launch the delivery service had been bubbling away since June, about the same time Gina’s daughter Kerry Ann joined the team as manager.

It is Kerry Ann who makes the deliveries.

Deliveries start from £1.50 in Wigton and increase by 50p every mile after that. The team at Gina’s Plaice deliver as far as Thursby towards Carlisle and Aspatria towards the west and everywhere in between.
