The Met Office has released a weather warning for snow and ice affecting Cumbria.

The yellow warning covers the north-easternmost segment of Cumbria from Brampton up to the Scottish border.

It also extends east from Brampton to the Northumberland border.

Beginning at midnight on Monday, the warning will remain in place until 2.00pm.

The Met Office said that during this time, "some roads and railways [are] likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services".

In addition, they also warned of the risk of "some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces".

The weather service said that during today "icy stretched are expected as temperatures fall Friday late afternoon and evening, especially when there is lying snow".

As well as affecting the northern edge of Cumbria, Monday's weather warning extends across the majority of Scotland.
