Eden District Council is celebrating after gaining a newly qualified environmental health and safety officer.

Georgina Austin Fell, 31, has qualified as an EHO after five years of training and is now working as part of the council’s Environmental Health and Food Safety Team.

Georgina, who grew up in Warcop and now lives in the Kirkby Stephen area, said: “I feel incredibly lucky to have been given this opportunity by the council and would like to thank my colleagues for their support whilst I have been undertaking my studies. I am excited to start my new role and look forward to working within the community.”

In 2013, the council took the decision to support Georgina in her studies as a trainee/graduate EHO.

Robert Docherty, the council's assistant director of environmental services, said: “Georgina’s dedication to her studies is demonstrated through the fact that she has passed almost every element at distinction level which is no mean feat. Georgina also received the Leeds Beckett University Dean’s Prize for Excellence in Environmental Health. To say we are incredibly proud of Georgina’s achievements is an understatement and we were delighted to welcome her into an Environmental Health Officer post."
