A WORKER from the Penrith branch of Carphone Warehouse has appeared in court accused of stealing almost £40,000 from his employer.
Jasper Connor Keith Pattison, 26, of Aldby Place, Cleator Moor, is alleged to have stolen the money from the Devonshire Street store between May 29, 2016, and May 27, 2017.
He appeared for a brief hearing at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates Court.
According to prosecutors, the amount stolen was £39,793.
The defendant, who was represented by defence lawyer John Smith, declined to enter a plea.
District Judge Gerald Chalk ruled that because of the amount of money involved the case should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing on February 22.
The defendant, who spoke only to confirm his personal details and to confirm that he would not be entering a plea, was granted bail.
