People interested in becoming foster carers as invited to find out more at information events in Workington.

Independent fostering agency Community Foster Care will hold drop-in sessions at Workington Leisure Centre every Monday in February.

People can drop between 9.30am and 12.30pm to find out more about what fostering involves.

Staff from the agency will also be at Slimming World in the Masonic Hall, Gordon Street, every Tuesday in February from 9am to noon.

Viv Gibson, placement support worker with the charity, said: "Becoming a foster carer is rewarding and life-changing.

“Many people think they can’t foster, but the opposite is often true. There’s lots of help and training to get you started and constant support along the way.

“Come and have a chat and we’ll be happy to provide all the info you need.”

There are more than 600 children in care in Cumbria.

Viv said: “Children are in care through no fault of their own. All they want is a safe place to call home and people who will try to understand them.”

Foster carers come from all walks of life and can be male or female, single, married or divorced. They must be over 25 and in generally good health.
