A WHITEHAVEN museum is helping people get involved in the Big Garden Bird Watch.

The Beacon Museum is supporting the event which runs from January 26 to 28 and asks people to count the bird species in their garden for an hour, then log the results on the RSPB website.

The Beacon is offering bird feeder workshops this weekend, where people can create owl-themed feeders from recycled materials - they just need to bring along a juice carton. The sessions are at 11am and 1.30pm and they cost £3 per person. The workshops are suitable for those aged three and over. The museum will also have the RSPB's garden bird surveys to hand out.

Alan Irwin, Business Development Manager, said: “Members of the public can drop by and pick up their garden birds survey and they can also create their own owl themed feeder using a juice carton.

“Just bring carton along and we will give you materials and ideas to create a fun centrepiece for your garden.”

More information is available at www.thebeacon-whitehaven.co.uk or by calling 01946 592302.

For those not able to attend events at the museum, surveys can also be ordered online, along with all information needed at www.rspb.org.uk.
