JANUARY is a perfect month dust down those trainers, and get active again after the festive period.

Here in Cumbria there are a number of great places to help you to get fit in 2019.

Earlier this week, we asked readers of the News & Star to recommend their favourite gyms in the north and west of the county on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Thanks to everyone who got involved and provided their feedback.

In no particular order, here are the number of places as recommended by you, our readers.

The female-only gym, on Lorne Street, Denton Holme, received a huge array of responses from readers.

Joanne Lloyd said: “Can’t recommend [it] enough, lovely staff and all the other members are lovely too, it’s like a little family which I love.”

Lisa Dykes posted: “Women’s only fitness centre changing attitudes from ‘I can’t ‘to ‘I can’.

“Everyone can exercise with the help and support of an activity coach every session. Also a community interest company - a not for profit organisation.”

Diane Wilson added: “The staff are very friendly. They make keeping fit fun and every week is different.

“Ladies of all ages and fitness levels are welcomed with open arms. It’s not just a gym, they are like a big family. I love it.

Based on English Damside in the city centre, the gym is open seven days a week.

3: LIFESTYLE FITNESS, CARLISLE

The Currock Road gym is open 24 hours, apart from Christmas Day, and has a range of fitness equipment.

The Egremont gym, located at Bridge End Industrial Estate, was recommended by two readers.
