A PUB which was taken over five weeks ago has closed its doors ahead of a major refurbishment.

The Howard Arms, on Front Street in Brampton, was taken over by Ruth Seggie and her husband Andrew. The pair are best known in the town for spending the last two years managing popular cafe Mr Brown’s.

Its final day before closing saw it selling off beer and cider at rock bottom prices to clear stock.

The ambition is to transform the Howard Arms into a place serving traditional food where families feel comfortable.

With years of experience in catering and retail between them, Ruth and Andrew are now hoping they will be able to add their own touches.

When the pair took over the Howard Arms at the end of last year they were welcomed by the community, with people stopping Ruth in the street to give their feedback.

It has already been a success with one social media user already anticipating its return.

They wrote: “I can’t wait until you are back after refurb. It is unlike me to go somewhere like this on my own but I consider you as friends which makes it a lot easier. That and enjoying my coffee and biccy in a lovely friendly atmosphere, with open fire and good company.”

It hopes to reopen in time for Valentine’s Day.
