POLICE have charged two people after a report of a robbery outside a bank in Penrith.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at around 6pm outside Barclays Bank, on the Market Square, on Wednesday (January 16).

Four people, aged between 14 and 19, were arrested following the incident.

Paul Stutchfield, 19, of Kirkoswald, has been charged with robbery.

A 16-year-old from Penrith has been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article.

Both are due to appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning (Friday, January 18).

A second 16-year-old and a 14-year-old who were also arrested have been released under investigation.

The victim of the robbery was initially reported as having been unhurt.

However, subsequent to the incident she attended hospital and was found to have suffered injuries to her leg and body.

The injuries did not require an overnight stay at hospital.

Detective Sergeant Chris Brennand said: “Cumbria Police takes any report of an offence involving knives extremely seriously.

“I would continue to urge anyone who is in the area of Barclays Bank at around 6pm on Wednesday to get I touch.

"Your information could help with our investigation.”
