An ice warning has been issued for Cumbria by the Met Office.

The yellow warning - the lowest level of seriousness - will kick in at 10pm tonight.

It is not due to cease until 11am tomorrow morning.

The warning covers the whole of Cumbria and all of northern England.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "There will also be some wintry showers about, mainly over hills and mountains, but also to some lower levels at times, most likely in parts of Scotland and northern, eastern and central England.

"With the exception of high ground, most places will not see any snow settling."

Experts warn people that injury could be caused by slips and falls on icy surfaces, while there will probably some ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
