Workington MP Sue Hayman has confirm she will back a vote of no confidence in the Government.

MPs will be asked to show whether they have confidence in those leading the country following last night's landmark vote on Prime Minister Theresa May's proposed deal on the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.

Mrs Hayman said: “Last night, I was one of 432 MPs who voted against Theresa May’s terrible Brexit deal, and today I will be voting to get rid of this useless Government in a 'no confidence' vote in the House of Commons.

“Theresa May’s bad Brexit deal was defeated by 230 votes – the biggest defeat for a Government in our history. She managed to unite people from all sides, those who voted leave and those who voted remain, in condemning her deal as bad for Britain.

“No Government in history has tried to carry on after such a crushing defeat. Until now. Theresa May should resign, but she treats Parliament with contempt and does not seem to care.

“Theresa May has spent two years constructing a Brexit deal that nobody wants. She has no new ideas; if she did, we would have heard them by now. She won’t change course even though she can’t win, she won’t talk to anyone, and she won’t resign either.

“I voted against her bad Brexit deal because it won’t protect British jobs, workplace rights or environmental standards, it won’t ensure frictionless trade for UK businesses, and it provides no certainty about our future relationship with the EU.

“In the run-up to the vote, I received hundreds of emails and messages from constituents asking me to vote against the deal, and only a handful in support of the deal.

“I will not support a cobbled-together deal that will make West Cumbrian people and businesses worse off, and Labour will work across Parliament to help prevent a “no deal” Brexit that would be a catastrophe for everyone in the UK.

“The UK needs a Brexit deal that works, and that must include a permanent customs union with the European Union, which is vital to safeguard our economy, our manufacturing industry and jobs.”
