A WEST Cumbrian charity has revealed it will hold a new inflatable obstacle course challenge as its main fundraising event of the year.

Hospice At Home West Cumbria will hold Kapow! Superhero Challenge, which is the first event of its kind to be held in the county.

It will replace the charity’s Colour Run, which has taken place for the last five years at Muncaster Castle. However mini colour runs for primary school pupils will continue to be held in 2019.

Stella Walsh, senior fundraiser at Hospice, said the obstacle course, which will have a foam finish, will be a fun challenge for people to enter. She added: “We’ve had five really good years with the Colour Run and we thought it was time to introduce something new. It’s nice to have something fresh for people to get their teeth into.”

The event will take place on July 6 in a new venue around the Cockermouth area. Details of the exact location and tickets will be released later this month. Hospice At Home is calling for businesses wanting to sponsor the event to come forward. The charity also has one more place for a school to take part in one of its 10 mini colour runs. The events raised £22,000 last year alone.

For the first time the charity, which provides end of life care in people’s own homes, is also giving the opportunity to enter international challenges to raise cash for its cause.

Hospice has teamed up with Global Adventure Challenges to offer people the opportunity to raise cash with a five-day trek in North India; a 280-mile cycling challenge over four days from London, passing through Amsterdam and finishing in Brussels in time for the city’s annual beer festival; a 29-mile trek over three days in the Alps mountain range walking between France, Switzerland and Italy. The charity is also offering people the opportunity to take part in Trekfest 2019 challenge with a 25k or 50k course in the Peak District.

And it has announced it will hold its first Buttermere Horseshoe Challenge on September 21, in partnership with Lakeland Mountain Guides. People can chose to take part in the full 12.7 mile course with 1,430m of ascent across eight peaks or the half course. This will take around 5 hours for a 6.5 mile trek with 875m of ascent across four peaks.
