Three fire crews dealt with a blaze at the Greenhill Hotel near Wigton.

An electrical fault has been blamed for the fire, which happened in a container at the back of the hotel.

The alarm was raised at 7.43pm last night, and crews were at the scene for over two hours.

Nobody was hurt or needed to be rescued.

Fire engines from Wigton, Aspatria and Carlisle West all attended.

The hotel building, just off the A595, was not affected.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said it was an accidental fire, caused by an electrical fault in a boiler.

Firefighters used two hose reels and a compressed air foam system to extinguish the fire.

The fire service praised the hotel management for dealing with the incident "professionally and quickly".

Staff helped firefighter isolate the power supply and identify an alternative.

As a result, there was minimal impact on the hotel and its guests, who did not need to be evacuated.

An inspection will be carried out at the premises today to see if any further action is required.

Fire crews were at the scene for two and a half hours.
