A GROUP behind a crowdfunding project to bring an outdoor labyrinth to Carlisle have made a last bid to reach their target.

Friends of Chances Park are aiming to raise £10,000 of match funding to unlock £30,000 from Entrust, the regular of the Landfill Communities Fund.

Entrust is a tax credit scheme which enables landfill operators to contribute money to enrolled environmental bodies, with the aim of carrying out projects that meet criteria outline in the Landfill Tax Regulations 1996.

So far, a total of £9,420 has been pledged online towards the project.

Once the £40,000 total is achieved, the group will deliver benches, signage boards, as well as a block paved entrance to the new outdoor attraction.

Iris Rogan, chair of the Friends of Chance’s Park, told the News & Star: "We carried out a questionnaire last year, asking locals what did they want to see in the park.

"We had many responses, including a suggestion for a labyrinth.

"The labyrinth represents a journey to our own centre and back out again into the world.

"Today with heightened awareness of mental health, anxiety and stress, so many people could benefit from walking their path in the labyrinth.

"The path would be wide enough for wheelchair users, and there will be a signage board at the entrance on the full use of it.

"Although able to use independently, workshop days on mindfulness would be held for all ages in the community.

Iris added that the environment and conservation is at the heart of the project.

The labyrinth's proposed landscape and stone path, which will be in geometrical shape in the turf - is aimed to protect the vegetation, which can be easily maintained.

"Thank you to everyone for their support so far.

"We're so close to reaching our funding target, and I'd appeal to Carlisle residents to make a pledge online."

Money pledged via the crowdfunding page on the Spacehive website will be taken from the accounts of those who have gone online to do so once the target has been reached.
